Did I ever tell you about the time .....

Let's ignore the fact that I haven't posted in a very long time okay?  Okay

A few weeks ago I was reading a  A blog post and it was mostly centered on stuff maybe people wouldn't necessarily know about the blogger.  I commented on some stuff that most people didn't know about me. I replied with some stuff of my own but also "promised" her a story about a stranger and of course the rest of you would love to hear the story. My mom and I just talked about it the other day and had a good laugh.

I grew up in a neighborhood with lots of kids of all different ages everyone had someone to play as you got older hang out with to pass the time just fine.  We were in middle school and my friend was really into art especially drawing. He would spend days just sketching and he was amazing. One day he asked our "group" if we ever noticed that the house on the next street over had what looked like an "artist studio".  My friend went on to explain that he could see this guy painting, sketching, etc at night while he walked by and would sometimes stand and watch. Not in a creepy way but he was just interested.   My friend wanted to meet him but didn't want to go alone so he convinced us I think there was 4 of us total to go with him to the house.

Yes, a house we have never visited to go meet a guy we knew nothing about and we were in middle school.  So why not what could go wrong?   We knocked on the door and we let my friend do the talking. I  obviously can't remember what was said but he was very impressed and invited us up to the studio.

As we looked around the studio he offered all of us a painting. A numbered print of the Mark Twain House a local tourist spot in our state.  We were very grateful and accepted.
I am not sure how long the visit lasted but when we left we must have figured we did something that probably wasn't the smartest idea and we promised never to show our parents the big giant print that we were all carrying up the street.  I feel like my timeline is a bit off when it comes to this next part because the print spent some time under my bed. But I also know I am not very good at keeping secrets and also really 4 kids with a secret? ya, that is never good. When my parents finally saw the print my mom ran down to the local art store and had the painting matted and framed.  It hangs in my parents living room because I don't think I have the wall space and because I think my mom loves the painting.  Maybe not the story of how I got it although our neighborhood is super safe.

Next up post the day I took a ride with a stranger and of the same friends that went with me to the studio.

Also, I think I linked properly but if I didn't well I can fix.

  1. A scary story in today's world, but it turned out really well, so I can't help but admire your courage. Plus, your parents got a great painting out of the visit. :)
